Hood Park

Campground Description:  Operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers, Hood Park is a beautiful 99 acre park, fully paved with rolling lawns, trees, swimming beaches and an adjacent day use area with BBQs and shelters.  Very well maintained and operated.  Hood Park offers restroom facilities with flush toilets and hot showers.  A boat launch is available at the day use area.  Hiking trails are available as well as basketball courts and horseshoe pits.  An amphitheater is available with a regular schedule of evening programs.  The Northern boarder of Hood Park is the Snake river's Sacajawea Lake, formed by the pooling of the Snake and Columbia rivers.  The Southern boarder of Hood Park abuts the McNary Wildlife Refuge, offering wildlife viewing.  When the regular campsites fill, there are an additional 90 overflow sites without any facilities.  Sacajawea State Park (no campgrounds) is approximately 4 miles west.  Hood Park is located 3 miles south of Pasco, WA, at the intersection of US Highway 12 and State Route 124.  Open April 1 until late September.  Reservations are recommended.

Directions:  Highway 395/12 Southbound from the Tri-Cities - Drive South from the Tri-Cities on US Highway 12 for 3 miles.  Immediately after crossing the Snake River, turn left onto State Route 124.  The park entrance is 50 yards on the left (North).

Fishing:  A Boat launch is adjacent to the park at the day use area.  World class Columbia River and Snake River fishing (seasonal) for salmon, steelhead, sturgeon, trout and small mouth bass.  Small mouth bass are an easy catch from the shore.

Astronomy Opportunities:  Fair.  Elevation is approximately 550 feet.  Lots of light pollution from the Tri-Cities.  Views are limited by the park's abundance of trees, however, there are no trees in the overflow camping area.  The exact location for computerized telescopes is 46.21606° North, 119.01349° West.

Nearby Golfing:  Numerous Par 3 to championship courses in the Tri-Cities, 8 miles north.
